We recently asked on Facebook and Instagram “Do you double book clients?”. Overall, stylists seemed pretty split on the idea. There are plenty of benefits of double booking: more income, not staying late, more time with your family. But many of you also said the client’s experience would take a hit. See what your fellow stylists have to say!
No Doubling Down!
One reason many said no to double booking was that some clients aren’t fans. Increased waiting time was a major factor. Sabrina said, “I feel like so many clients have left stylists that did double book. They have complained they sat under the dryer forever. I feel as if I charge enough to give them the time they deserve.”
Others thought working with two clients would lessen the experience for each client. “I try to create a special guest experience for each person that sits in my chair and I feel people don’t feel as important or special if you’re working on someone else at the same time.”-Kayla
Double Book During Certain Times
Sometimes it just boiled down to the time or day. If you know what day you can do it because you’ve got a little extra help, go for it! Assistants are a life-saver when double booking clients. Summer said, “Only on Wednesday’s for me because I have an assistant on Wednesday. She shampoos & blow dries as I’m applying the next color. So no one is waiting. However, I make sure to still give my clients the attention they deserve and my assistant is amazing. They love her so it’s always a good vibe and flow. This allows me not to have to work late the rest of the week so I can be home with my family more.”
Double booking is also helpful when you have several clients that want the same appointment time! Gerri has a great solution for this: Just be up front! “Prime time everyone wants a 5:00/5:30 spot. I have 3 in a week. Double booking gives me 6 for their convenience. I always let them know, and if they aren’t comfortable, they will pick another time.”
Know When to Double Book
One thing was obvious. Those of you that do double book are prepared and know when you can! And color processing time is ideal. “I will double book men’s cuts during processing times on Saturdays.”-Toni
While some clients may not like double booking, sometimes you do it to make them happy! “I do not double book unless there is no other way to accommodate the client and it is a service I can easily do in a color’s process time.”-Sunshine
Either way, your client’s experience is important! Whether you decide to double book is going to depend on your salon and your client’s needs! Let us know what you think in the comments!
